Professional Overview

Abhi Mathews is the principal of Minerva Valuation Advisors ("MVA"). Prior to starting MVA, Abhi spent the last 15 years working at several business valuation firms, investment banks, and accounting firms. He has both Wall Street and Bay Street experience and is one of the few licensed business valuators in Canada/US, with investment banking experience. In this span, he has assisted in raising or advising on over $400 million in capital for public and private companies while conducting business valuations for North American entities. In Minerva, Abhi has assisted business owners and accredited investors value businesses, intellectual properties (patents, trademarks, customer lists, licenses etc.), and assets across North America.

He has several years of experience in business valuations, corporate finance, litigations support and advisory services. Abhi has helped provide valuation and expert reports for companies in almost every industry varying in sizes from large publicly listed companies to small private entities. Throughout his career, valuations and advisory services have been completed for going public transactions, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, estate tax planning, family law, management buy-outs, shareholder transactions, fairness opinions, divestitures, employee stock ownership plans (ESOP), and breach of contract. He has qualified as an expert in arbitration matters and assisted the courts in Ontario in family law, shareholder disputes and fraud matters.

As a Chartered Business Valuator, Mr. Mathews has valued business interests, royalty interests, including overriding royalty interests, and partnership intersts. He has assisted in raising capital for private entities, often with a go-public mandate. Similarly, he has assisted in raising equity and debt capital for public entities.He has also assisted in raising while valuing convertible debt, venture debt/mezzanine financing, preferred shares, senior debt instruments, stock options, warrants and restricted share units. He has produced fairness opinions, which have been used for public companies trading on the NYSE, TSX, and TSX-V.

He graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelors in Accounting & Financial Management ("BAFM"), with a minor in Economics. He attended University of Connecticut for the Masters in Science - Accounting program. He currently sits as a member of the educational working body of the CFA Institute, member of the Estate Planning Council of Canada, member of the CFA Society New York, member of the CFA Society Chicago, member of the Chicago Chapter ASA and a member of the Institute of Chartered Business Valuators. Abhi is a Chartered Business Valuator (2013) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (2014). He has completed the Series 7, 63, 79 and SIE with FINRA.

Mr. Mathews, occasionally, participates on the advisory board of a couple of private entities, spanning industries from financial technology to legal services to asset management. He also enjoys writing on a diverse set of business valuations & mergers & acquisitions topics and has been published in The Lawyers Daily,CAIA ,Bezinga, Crunchbase, TalkMarkets, New Jersey News Journal among other publications. During his spare time, Mr. Mathews is involved with the local communities in a variety of ways. He founded a kids Not For Profit ("NFP") in the Ontario region and was a board member of a NFP, which focused on at risk kids in Toronto.
